Financial Counselor, Salem Hospital
Job Summary
Responsible for counseling patients or parties responsible for payment. Also educates patients on their responsibilities and potential options, ensuring accuracy, while compassionately explaining to the patients their financial obligations during the financial counseling session. In addition, must obtain any necessary pre-certifications or authorizations and assist with any financing or third-party applications.
Essential Functions
- Provides warm and friendly greetings to patient and their families/visitors, upon interaction and educates patient regarding financial assistance programs
- Affords assistance to patients in obtaining financial assistance (i.e. Medicaid, drug replacement), outside assistance (i.e. transportation or other community services) and ensures appropriate forms completion
- Offers information to patients on costs, payment methods and alternatives to payments/financial assistance
- Maintains empathy and professionalism in registration interviews and while providing regulatory information and notices
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Associate's Degree in Financial Management preferred
- 1+ years of medical office experience preferred
- 1+ years of financial counseling preferred
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills and proactive initiative
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Strong understanding of medical terminology as well as ICD-9 and CPT codes
Working Schedule
Monday and Friday remote, onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Working hours 8-4:30p.
