Financial Counselor
About the role
POSITION SUMMARY: The Financial Counselor works directly with patients, family, and various hospital staff to ensure that patients are taken care of while on their journey with SJH. Financial Counselor functions consist of but not limited to creating and reviewing estimates with patients, discussing financial responsibilities with patients and/or their family where appropriate, setting up payment plans, referring patients to the Medicaid vendor, providing and reviewing financial assistance applications, reviewing high-dollar and self-pay accounts with leadership and other staff as needed, completing bedside registration, obtaining any needed signatures including consents and COB forms, and floating to areas within Patient Access dept to assist as need directed by management. In all locations, the Financial Counselor will ensure that accounts are financially secure, meaning collecting demographics, insurance information, reviewing financial responsibilities consisting of co-pays, past due balances, and estimates.
