Financial Coach - Social Security Administration Benefits Counselor

About the role

ServiceSource is an organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities. This position involves one-on-one services to help consumers set financial goals, understand their Social Security Disability benefits, and develop financial skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a resource to all staff members, consumers, and stakeholders.
  • Complete financial health assessments with customers.
  • Track and meet monthly and annual program service targets.
  • Conduct individual financial coaching on topics such as credit and debt management.
  • Aid participants in developing a personal financial plan to meet their goals.
  • Assist participants in identifying and assessing their personal financial needs.
  • Provide individual SSA benefits counseling and planning.
  • Afford participants the opportunity to understand their SSA disability benefits and related information.
  • Document all customer information in the database daily.
  • Create and submit monthly progress reports as directed.
  • Build relationships in the community to facilitate outreach and inform the community about available services.
  • Manage and oversee a diverse caseload of Supported Employment participants and participant-employees, providing ongoing support and consultation.
  • Participate in financial coaching training programs.
  • Deliver program-related presentations, including orientations, Mind Over Money, and Social Security Benefits workshops.
  • Facilitate financial education and Social Security Work Incentive education workshops.
  • Maintain follow-up contact on progress toward goals during coaching sessions.
  • Refer participants to community or financial agencies to obtain services outlined in financial plans.
  • Represent the Finance Ability Program in various community forums and conduct program presentations.
  • Contribute to the Rehab department outcomes, participating in team and staff meetings.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Hold and maintain CWIC: Certification required for Social Security Benefit Counseling.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree plus minimum two years of related job experience, associate degree plus minimum three years of related job experience, or minimum four years of related experience required.
  • Experience: Experience working with adults with a wide range of disabilities required.
  • Language: English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
  • Other: Must pass a credit check, Social Security background check, and obtain Personal Financial Coaching Certification. Must be certified as a Certified Work Incentives Counselor (CWIC).
