About the role

Under the guidance of Finance management, the Financial Analyst I provides accurate, timely, and actionable financial analysis to support volume, business, and profitability decisions for assigned Clinical Institute(s). The role assists in preparing data and supporting materials for monthly and ad hoc meetings with internal stakeholders, focusing on financial performance metrics such as volumes, revenues, direct costs, direct margins, and influencing factors.

Monthly and ad hoc meetings are primarily led by Finance and include the Clinical Institute's director, managers, and leadership across service lines like inpatient care, surgeries, diagnostics, and therapeutics. The incumbent supports these meetings by providing and presenting prepared data and analysis as directed.

The role also assists senior analysts and Finance management in ROI analysis and financial modeling, including discounted cash flows, net present values, and internal rates of return, by preparing underlying data and models under close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly profitability reports by compiling and organizing data under Finance direction, contributing to actionable insights.
  • Support the preparation of materials for quarterly financial presentations for Hoag’s Senior Management Team, reviewed by Finance management.
  • Complete ad hoc analysis requests, including business volumes, general ledger comparisons, and financial impacts from meetings, operations inquiries, or Finance management priorities.
  • Develop an understanding of how volumes affect revenues, costs, and margins, applying this knowledge to assigned tasks under Finance guidance.
  • Learn revenue drivers and their impact on Institute financial performance through on-the-job training and mentorship.
  • Build foundational knowledge of costing methodologies under Finance direction, applying this to support profitability reporting.
  • Interpret department income statements against budget and trends.
  • Identify potential discrepancies in costing results, dashboards, or reports during analysis and escalate findings for review and resolution.
  • Support the development of financial proformas and ROI models by preparing underlying data and model inputs as directed.
  • Maintain, monitor, and distribute daily and monthly reconciliations of data loaded from electronic medical records to the finance performance management system.
  • Ensure the finance performance management system’s decision support dictionary tables (job codes, physicians, departments, general ledger accounts, pay codes) are updated weekly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including ad hoc financial analytics supporting costing and decision support functions, under Finance supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience as a financial analyst or accountant.
  • Hospital or healthcare experience is desirable.
