This full-time, benefited position provides administrative and technical support to the Finance Department, which consists of the Accounting, Treasurer/Tax Collector and Assessing divisions.

Responsibilities

  • Manages accounts payable processes and account systems, including producing and reconciling weekly warrants.
  • Ensures vendor records are up to date and payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Assists in maintaining financial data for tracking and reporting of specific revenue and expenditures.
  • Reconciles and tracks Town utility spending.
  • May serve as back up to the Assistant Town Accountant for payroll processing.
  • Provides customer service backup at Finance Department as needed, including giving information to the public in person or by telephone.
  • Oversees Town property and casualty claims, tracks and monitors existing and potential insurance claims, and processes insurance claims reimbursements.
  • Provides administrative support to the Finance Director/Town Accountant as assigned.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as directed by the Finance Director to support other Town offices, including serving as the back up to the other Finance Assistant when needed.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree and four to six years of payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to be bonded.
  • Knowledge of municipal finance practices and procedures and office procedures.
  • Comprehension of database, spreadsheet, word processing, and finance software.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of payroll.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Skill and accuracy in working with numbers and detail.
  • Excellent administrative, organizational, communication and customer service skills.

  • Standard office equipment (e.g., telephone, copier, facsimile)

Physical Requirements

  • Minimal physical effort is required to perform duties.
  • Frequently required to stand, sit, speak, hear, use hands to operate equipment and lift materials weighing up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Vision requirements include the ability to read routine and complex documents for analysis and general understanding and use a computer.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed under office conditions.
  • Work load is subject to seasonal fluctuations.
  • May be required to work additional hours to meet deadlines.

Pay

Hiring range $61,113 to $73,330 DOQ (Full salary range max. $85,546).
