About the role

The Financial Analyst position is located within the Contracts and Finance department and reports to the Finance Manager. This role will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, monitoring, and forecasting financial data to ensure responsible stewardship of WIDA’s financial resources.

Responsibilities

  • Uses statistical analysis, simulations, predictive modeling, or other methods to analyze information and develop solutions to business problems
  • Participates in development, maintenance, and monitoring of automated financial information systems and budgets, and disseminates updates and results to leadership when appropriate
  • Participates in the development and implementation of financial processes throughout the department; including the development and provision of training and instructions, timelines, reports, and recommendations for improvement
  • Prepares reports, spreadsheets, and schedules with compiled financial data
  • Processes general ledger entries in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Performs general ledger reconciliations and complex general ledger account analysis
  • Performs procurement-related activities and invoicing customers as required
  • Serves as a trusted business partner to other WIDA team members, serving as an expert in the School of Education and the University of Wisconsin's finance policies and procedures

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or accounting, including experience in data gathering, financial modeling, and forecasting
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to learn and adapt to new financial systems and tools
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyze data and develop reports
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to accuracy in financial analysis and reporting
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve issues effectively
  • Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams
