About the Department

The UCOP Budget, Financial Planning & Analysis team provides strategic support in financial planning, policy analysis, and fiscal administration to UCOP. The group analyzes policies and programs, assists in determining financial priorities, and develops strategies to achieve these priorities. The team partners with departments to align resources with strategic goals and delivers insightful financial analysis and forecasting to support leadership decision-making.

About the Role

The Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and analyzing Divisional budgets throughout the Office of the President. This role ensures transparency and drives a consistent reporting structure to support UCOP's strategic objectives. The Financial Analyst collaborates with Divisional and departmental staff to develop and manage budgets, create forecasts, and build resource management tools. This is a hybrid position located in Oakland, CA.

Responsibilities

• Applies professional financial and budgetary concepts to provide analytical support for budget and forecast preparation and monitoring (50%). Reviews detailed funding for UCOP budgets, gathers data from budget and planning systems, and prepares variance analysis for leadership. Works with department staff to analyze financial data for accurate and comprehensive budgets and forecasts. Completes reconciliation of budget and financial data to ensure accuracy and partners with stakeholders to correct errors.
• Assists in the evaluation and development of budget and financial system enhancement projects, including testing and training (20%). Generates, modifies, and conceives new financial or budget reports.
• Acts as a resource for UCOP department staff on budgeting, systems data, and reporting (25%). Generates reports and analysis as needed, including budget, general ledger, and payroll reports. Provides training for new department staff.
• Assists the Director and Executive Director on key projects and ongoing process improvements (5%). Prepares analysis to support the budget process and procedural changes, updates documentation, and performs financial analysis and transactions for fund administration.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in similar roles.
• Ability to research, analyze, and interpret budget and financial data, collaborating across organizational lines to synthesize data for recommendations.
• Strong Excel skills, problem-solving abilities, and sound judgment for decision-making based on accurate and timely analyses.
• Experience with financial systems, including data input, report creation, and ad hoc analyses.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple time-sensitive and detail-oriented tasks simultaneously with strong results and goal orientation.
• Knowledge of financial policies, practices, systems, budgeting, reporting techniques, and accounting.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and experience in a customer service environment.
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly and concisely to stakeholders.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with UC budget and accounting practices or fund-based accounting in a non-profit setting.
• Experience with Oracle financial systems.
• Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $103,000 - $115,000. The full range reflects the growth potential for this role. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
