Under limited supervision, the Financial Aid Advisor assists senior advisors, coordinators, and management with calculating eligibility, communicating effectively with students, pulling files and documents, and scanning. Ensures accuracy in financial aid data for state and federal reporting. May also assist students at campus counter locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides financial aid advice and counsels students on programs, eligibility requirements, and application processes to deliver equitable award packages (10% daily).
  • Processes financial aid by verifying data and certifying grants, loans, and scholarships through income and budget analysis; reviews applications to determine eligibility and requests additional documentation as needed (30% daily).
  • Analyzes technical data records using federal systems, including the National Student Loan Data System, Federal Common Origination and Disbursement System, and Federal Central Processing System (25% daily).
  • Assists in constructing and reconciling financial aid files for state and federal reporting (5% as needed).
  • Resolves discrepancies and manually reconciles files when system limitations prevent automation (10% daily).
  • Responds to inquiries by researching and resolving problematic transactions; serves as a liaison with other departments and provides crisis intervention referrals (10% daily).
  • Performs related duties as assigned (10% daily).

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree; an equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Three years of relevant experience, preferably within the field or a closely related area.
  • General understanding of college structure, policies, and procedures related to financial aid.
  • Knowledge of higher education student financial aid practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, conduct reconciliations, and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer systems, including Microsoft Office and specialized financial aid software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students and staff.

Pay

$36,800 – $43,240 annually, commensurate with education and experience.

Schedule

  • Full-time, regular position.
  • Monday – Friday; occasional weekends as needed.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • First shift.

Eligible veterans and their spouses may claim Veterans’ Preference pursuant to Florida Statute 295. Certain servicemembers may qualify for waivers of postsecondary educational requirements for state employment.
