About the role
Provide guidance, explain policies, and help secure the necessary funding for students to attend college.
Responsibilities
- Guide students and parents (families) through the financial-aid process, including completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Inform and educate students and parents about different types of financial aid—scholarships, grants, and loans.
- Communicate with students about their financial-aid package and any adjustments that may occur.
- Assist students with loan applications, entrance and exit counseling, and debt management.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial-aid policies and regulations.
- Coordinate with other departments (admissions, registrar) to ensure accuracy in student records.
- Help students understand the implications of their financial decisions and promote responsible borrowing.
- Respond to all student communication (email/phone) within 24–48 hours.
- Conduct scheduled appointments with new and continuing students.
- Conduct financial-aid presentations and workshops for prospective and current students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Previous experience in financial-aid counseling or a related field is preferred.
- May require evening and weekend work.
