About the role
We are seeking an Optometric Assistant to join our team. This role supports the optometrist in providing high-quality eye care services to patients.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and manage appointment scheduling
- Perform preliminary eye function tests, including autorefractor and tonometry measurements
- Assist the optometrist during comprehensive eye examinations
- Educate patients on contact lens insertion, removal, and care
- Maintain and clean ophthalmic instruments and equipment
- Manage patient records and ensure accurate documentation
- Process insurance claims and handle billing inquiries
- Assist patients with frame selection and adjustments
- Coordinate with optical laboratories for lens ordering and tracking
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in an optometric or ophthalmology practice preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and eye care procedures
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Optometric Assistant (COA) certification preferred but not required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a plus
- Familiarity with optical dispensing and frame adjustments
- Understanding of insurance verification and billing procedures
Skills
- Excellent customer service and patient care skills

- Ability to operate and maintain diagnostic equipment
- Proficient in computer applications and office software
- Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team
Pay
$18.00 – $25.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with occasional Saturday availability required.
