Overview The primary focus of this role is to lead, manage, and develop a team of underwriting professionals who provide strategic guidance and financial analysis support to account teams and clients. This position oversees the delivery of underwriting services, leveraging financial modeling, projections, and decision-making tools to support client objectives and business growth. The role regularly participates in client-facing meetings, serves as a key spokesperson for underwriting services and capabilities, and partners with internal teams to address complex financial and benefit-related issues. Additionally, this leader acts as a mentor and coach to analysts and consultants, fostering professional development, enhancing technical expertise, and driving a high-performing, client-focused team. How You'll Make An Impact Provide strategic guidance, technical expertise, and underwriting support to internal teams and clients regarding financial analysis, projections, and benefit plan design recommendations. Develop and deliver ad hoc financial reports to support client consultants in tracking expenses, identifying trends, and evaluating plan performance. Coordinate carrier and vendor reporting processes to ensure accurate, streamlined, and effective communication of plan expense data. Analyze, evaluate, and report on underwriting projects and initiatives that support organizational and client objectives. Lead regularly scheduled underwriting team meetings and regional staff conference calls to promote collaboration, consistency, and knowledge sharing. Create and distribute communications to internal stakeholders, clients, corporate partners, and industry contacts. Serve as a trusted consultant to internal staff and clients, providing solutions for complex benefit, underwriting, and financial issues. Deliver underwriting analyses and financial modeling that support client retention efforts and strategic decision-making. Support business development activities by preparing financial projections and underwriting analyses for prospective and large-group accounts. Coordinate and assist in the development and delivery of underwriting training programs for staff and clients. Act as a subject matter expert and resource for branch office personnel, contributing to measurable client value, service excellence, and retention. Mentor, coach, and develop underwriting staff, providing guidance, education, and support to foster professional growth. Effectively delegate work and resources to maximize team productivity, efficiency, and performance. About You Required: Bachelor's degree and 7 years experience with Broker or Carrier side with focus on Health and Benefits. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications and Microsoft Office. High degree of understanding of employee benefits funding mechanisms. Must be familiar with carrier reporting systems. Be able to effectively articulate the format, content, and logic of all underwriting tools and client reports. Preferred: Effective negotiation skills. Knowledgeable in using various analytical approaches to problem solving. Advanced knowledge of underwriting principles and of the employee benefits field. Behaviors: Must have strong interpersonal skills; excellent communication skills and ability to build meaningful professional relationships in order to be successful with required client facing activity. Must demonstrate ability to effectively manage and mentor individuals as well as a team.
