Finance & Operations Analyst
About the role
Baselayer exists to make decisions faster, more accurate, and less expensive for financial institutions onboarding businesses. They offer the leading AI Risk Platform that automates merchant onboarding, underwriting, and fraud prevention for over 20% of US financial institutions, combining government data, AI agents for web analysis, and a network of millions of applications to prevent billions in fraud and automate good merchant applications. The team is growing, close‑knit, solving costly business fraud with ownership, direct communication, and high quality. You would report directly to the Head of Operations & Finance, owning month‑end close, accounting, FP&A, and various operational tasks that keep a fast‑growing startup running, from office logistics to setting up new teammates’ laptops.
Responsibilities
- Track and analyze unit economics and SaaS metrics — ARR, gross margin, NDR, burn multiple, and more
- Build and maintain the operating model, budget vs. actuals, and rolling cash forecast
- Produce recurring management and board-level reporting on revenue, burn, runway, and departmental spend
- Turn ambiguous questions into clear analysis: what is this costing us, what is driving the variance, and what should we do about it
- Improve and automate the finance stack — billing, invoicing, expense management, and procurement
- Own vendor and software spend management, including renewals and contracts
- Support compliance and corporate housekeeping in partnership with Legal and Compliance including annual SOC2, penetration testing, business insurance and more
- Support HR and Recruiting with on/off-boarding, assisting new employees, and general support requests
- Work with BI tooling to provide valuable insights to internal key players
- Assist with the month-end close process end to end — journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and account reconciliations
- Manage account mapping for credit card payments and billing
- Partner with our outside accountants and tax advisors on close support, year-end, and compliance filings
