Finance Director - Client-Facing
About the role
We are seeking an experienced finance professional with strong financial acumen and leadership skills who is passionate about driving business results for mid-size businesses and delivering high-quality client service. The Finance Director serves Growth Operators’ clients, typically under the direction of a Growth Operators Partner or Managing Director, in a leadership role, managing and overseeing financial planning and business intelligence functions. Services are provided in the form of advisory services (specific projects) and outsourced services (interim or fractional roles with clients). You will be a key asset to our clients.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the strategic planning, direction, and goal setting for the business in collaboration with senior management.
- Improve the organization’s budgeting, planning, forecasting, analytics, and reporting capabilities.
- Assess and provide recommendations on how the mix of people, processes, and technology can improve an organization’s financial reporting; implement efficiencies and improvements in these areas.
- Develop key performance indicators measuring the financial health of the organization or assigned units or functions.
- Review past and current financial performance against budgeted estimates and develop models that assist management in understanding the financial impact of business decisions.
- Develop strategies to assist the organization in meeting its long-term financial objectives.
- Overhaul and/or create policies, practices, and procedures for sustained performance improvement.
- Manage projects to keep on track and identify opportunities to provide additional value to our clients.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting.
- 10+ years of progressive finance or accounting experience.
- Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.
- Analytical thinker and detail-oriented.
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with planning & analytics software (Cube Software, Workday Adaptive Planning, Planful, Anaplan, Essbase, etc.).
- Experience with visual data platforms (PowerBI, Tableau, Sisense, etc.).
- Experience with database applications.
- Deep experience preparing financial reports and presentations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience planning, executing, and delivering projects on time and within budget, ensuring alignment with business goals and stakeholder expectations.
- Proven leadership ability, responsible for managing and mentoring finance teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
- Strong project management skills.
- Must be able to spend substantial time in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area for onsite client work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA (active or inactive) and/or MBA.
- Background in mergers, acquisitions, and integrations.
- Prior engagements in consulting or contract work.
- Experience working with private equity-backed companies.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with some flexibility regarding work schedule and location. The work is performed on-site at client locations, remotely from home, and at Growth Operators' office in downtown Minneapolis. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones. Travel is primarily local during the business day; some out-of-town and overnight travel is expected.
Pay
$140,000-$165,000 base salary. In addition to the base salary, you will also be eligible to participate in a quarterly incentive program.
