Finance & Accounting SME – AI Training

About the role

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Finance & Accounting AI Trainer / Subject Matter Expert for an innovative technology organization supporting the development and improvement of advanced artificial intelligence systems. This is a fully remote, 12-week contract project offering flexible scheduling and the opportunity to apply real-world finance or accounting expertise in an emerging AI environment. The Finance & Accounting AI Trainer / Subject Matter Expert will apply professional finance or accounting expertise to help train and evaluate advanced AI models. This individual will create and review realistic finance and accounting problems, assess AI-generated responses for accuracy, identify technical or reasoning errors, and provide clear written explanations of the correct approach. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals who are highly analytical, detail-oriented, technologically comfortable, and interested in applying their expertise beyond a traditional corporate environment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate AI-generated responses to complex finance and accounting questions for accuracy, completeness, logic, and professional quality.
• Develop realistic, expert-level problems and scenarios based on practical finance or accounting concepts and workflows.
• Identify technical, analytical, reporting, calculation, or reasoning errors and clearly explain the appropriate solution or methodology.
• Apply subject matter expertise across areas such as financial analysis, corporate finance, financial statements, forecasting, GAAP/IFRS, month-end close, reconciliations, audit, tax, controls, technical accounting, or financial reporting, depending on individual expertise.
• Follow detailed project instructions, quality standards, and evaluation criteria while working independently in a remote environment.
• Complete assignments using browser-based platforms, spreadsheets, documents, files, and other digital tools while consistently meeting project quality and productivity expectations.

Qualifications

• Substantive, hands-on professional experience within finance and/or accounting, such as corporate finance, FP&A, controllership, financial reporting, technical accounting, audit, tax, or related disciplines.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Strong analytical reasoning and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex financial or accounting concepts and identify errors in another party's work.
• Strong technology literacy and comfort working with spreadsheets, Google Workspace, browser-based applications, file downloads/uploads, zipped files, and emerging AI tools.
• Ability to independently commit 30–40 hours per week for the full 12-week project, with access to a personal laptop or computer and a reliable internet connection; mobile-only work and VPN use are not permitted.

Compensation and Benefits

• $125/hour compensation for full project work.
• Paid Starter Assessment (approximately 3–4 hours) for a $240 flat payment.
• Paid onboarding and training provided before beginning full project work.
