FMI Aerostructures is a leading independent manufacturing company serving the aerospace & defense industry. With over 40 years of experience, our 250-member team specializes in producing critical structural components and complex assemblies for major aerospace players.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed inspections of completed parts and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards prior to shipment.
- Utilize precision measurement tools and equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Review and interpret technical documentation, including blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.
- Identify and document non-conformances, discrepancies, and defects, ensuring accurate reporting and follow-up.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain thorough inspection records, logs, and reports for traceability and audit purposes.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality management systems during inspection processes.
- Train and mentor junior inspectors on quality standards and inspection techniques.
- Stay updated on industry regulations, standards, and best practices relevant to aerospace inspections.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments and equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Strong understanding of aerospace industry standards and regulations, including AS9100 and ISO 9001
- Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods preferred
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify defects or deviations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in using inspection software and data entry systems
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends, if necessary
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and handle materials up to 50 pounds
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in aerospace or related field preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in aerospace inspection or quality assurance
