About the role

The Film Technician is responsible for the set-up, operation, prevention, troubleshooting, and housekeeping of equipment as assigned. This role requires working on a rotating shift schedule; assignments (shifts, equipment, and production area) are adjusted based on business needs. Overtime will be assigned and/or requested based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Life Protection equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures and recipe work instructions.
  • Take and measure in-process samples and monitor product quality of intermediate and finished products.
  • Maintain required records of raw and intermediate materials, finished products, and production data in appropriate computer systems.
  • Move, maintain inventory, and store required materials for equipment as needed.
  • Assist in training, guidance, and support of other team members.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOPs, and other related documentation.
  • Set up, operate, adjust, and clean all equipment required for production in accordance with work instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining business goals.
  • Support and drive productivity to meet plant and corporate initiatives as outlined in the manufacturing plan.
  • Prepare samples for offline quality checks and perform off-line tests.
  • Supply and maintain inventory of components/supplies as needed.
  • Correct process conditions within given limits to maintain desired results.
  • Request and/or issue maintenance tickets for repair work.
  • Perform intermediate mechanical repair and/or preventative maintenance as assigned.
  • Perform in-process and off-line quality checks as required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality by ensuring all test and product documentation is accurate, completed timely, and filed per area requirements.
  • Utilize data and good judgment to make critical decisions on product quality, equipment functionality, safety, and related activities.
  • Identify problems related to equipment, work orders, logbooks, set-ups, and recommend solutions.
  • Inform leadership and document any problems that may impair product quality, packaging components, work efficiency, or safety.
  • Actively contribute to Lean, 5S, and Continuous Improvement efforts within the Production area.
  • Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste specified by site procedures and regulations.
  • Work with team members and support resources to ensure “first time right” material.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma (required) with at least 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, production, or equivalent military technical experience/training.
  • Working knowledge of business processes and platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, manufacturing operations systems, and equipment digital interfaces.
  • Understanding of Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) requirements and practices.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with machine controls and instrumentation.
  • Ability to follow SHE procedures, standard operating procedures, and work instructions.
  • Analytical skills to identify issues within the manufacturing process and take timely corrective action.
  • Mechanical competency, including equipment assembly and intermediate repair.
  • Ability to make informed, data-driven decisions quickly, sometimes under pressure.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate records via hand-written forms and electronic database systems.
  • Effective communication skills to translate site and area goals into daily actions.
  • Ability to organize, schedule, and follow up on activities based on area expectations.
  • Capability to contribute to and support change management in the area.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills for effective collaboration.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and overhead cranes.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; use hands to handle tools or controls; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds; occasionally handle up to 250 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Use of safety equipment as dictated by work area (e.g., safety glasses, shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons).
  • Frequent exposure to wet/humid conditions, dust, fumes, airborne particles, chemical dust, moving mechanical parts, and vibration.
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and outside weather conditions.
  • Moderate to high noise levels in the work environment; proper personal safety equipment must be used.
