About the role

This position involves advising students, grading assignments, leading tutorials, and participating in some online discussions and activities for the following courses:

  • SMC188H1H – The Gilson Seminar in Faith and Ideas: An interdisciplinary exploration of leading scholarly, intellectual, and public questions related to ecology, science, literature, and public life. The seminar considers how religion and different kinds of religious experience figure in the broader context of human affairs.
  • SMC189H1H – The Gilson Seminar in Faith and Rome: An intensive international learning experience in Rome, Italy, offering contemporary and historical models of integrating faith with reason, and religious practice with intellectual, creative, and public engagement. This course includes a mandatory travel component to Rome following the Winter term exam period.

Responsibilities

  • Advise students on course material and assignments
  • Grade assignments and provide constructive feedback
  • Lead tutorials and facilitate discussions
  • Participate in online discussions and activities

Requirements

  • MA required
  • Preference given to graduate students whose disciplinary study and research specializations align closely with the focus of these courses (per CUPE 3902 Unit 4 Collective Agreement, Article 15.07)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Schedule

  • SMC188H1F: Tuesdays, 3PM – 5PM; tutorial – Wednesdays, 4PM – 5PM
  • SMC189H1S: Tuesdays, 3PM – 5PM; includes mandatory travel to Rome in May 2026
  • Dates of appointment: August 25, 2025 – May 31, 2026
  • Total hours: 100 hours
  • Delivery mode: In-person

Pay

  • Fall 2025: $52.97 per hour + 4% vacation pay
  • Winter 2026: $53.92 per hour + 4% vacation pay
