Fijian Interpreter

About the Role

LanguageLine Solutions is seeking a Bilingual Fijian-English Phone Interpreter to work from home in the United States. As an interpreter, you will receive industry-leading training and work in a certified ASTM and ISO environment, supported by a Senior Language Specialist and dedicated help desks.

Responsibilities

• Respond to interpreting sessions promptly and conduct interpretation in a friendly and professional manner
• Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions
• Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation and polite expressions
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout all interpreting sessions
• Remain calm during interpreting sessions when primary speakers are incoherent or upset, especially in emergency situations such as 911 calls
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours
• Follow client instructions in compliance with protocol to ensure client expectations are met with the Limited English-speaking Person (LEP)
• Avoid interaction with the LEP without client's permission
• Understand protocol and terminology for various industries including Medical, Insurance, Finance and Law
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment

Qualifications

• Fluency in Fijian and English with skilled understanding of associated cultural dynamics
• Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences
• Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills to maintain high accuracy during interpretation
• Ability to concentrate, stay detached from conversations, remain neutral and objective at all times
• Ability to remain on calls involving sensitive subjects such as end of life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation and/or gender expression
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future (no H1-B, F-1 OPT, TN or other non-immigrant status)
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Not currently employed by a client of LanguageLine Solutions or an affiliated business
• Based on location, may be required to complete a post-offer, pre-employment background check and/or drug screen

Skills

• Ability to handle highly emotional and/or stressful calls
• Capacity to remain on calls for extended periods without breaks when necessary
• Ability to handle high call volumes
• Ability to read and write the requested languages (highly preferred)
• Education or work experience in language-related fields such as teaching, language assessment, translation or interpretation (preferred)
• Ability to adapt to technology enhancements that improve service delivery

Pay

$1.25 - $1.40 per minute. This is an independent contractor position and therefore not eligible for employee benefits.

Schedule

Work at home position in the United States. Interpreter works from home-office and must maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
