About the role
The Animal Industry Division (AID) of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) seeks a dedicated and experienced general field veterinarian to protect, regulate, and promote animal health. This position ensures the safety of public health, animal industries, and the quality of food animals, equines, cervidae, exotic animals, and companion animals through comprehensive inspections, investigations, and training.
Responsibilities
- Handle complex inspections, investigations, and training related to animal health and welfare.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations concerning disease detection and eradication.
- Provide veterinary services to ensure the health and well-being of inspected animals.
- Collaborate with other departments to implement and enforce effective animal health programs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to maintain high standards of animal care.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree in veterinary medicine.
- One year of professional experience performing veterinary services involving the inspection of animals for the purpose of enforcing state and federal regulations pertaining to the detection and eradication of disease, including one year of experience equivalent to a Veterinarian P11.
- Licence to practice veterinary medicine in Michigan.
- Reside in Allegan, Berrien, Cass, Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, or VanBuren counties, or within ten miles, or willing to relocate within 12 months of hire.

Pay
This position offers a one-time sign-on bonus of up to $5,000, contingent on meeting a one-year commitment and repayment of the bonus in full.
