Field Technician, Leak Survey

About the role

Performs entry-level work related to leakage surveys.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct leakage surveys on pipelines including but not limited to:
    • Company distribution and/or transmission lines
    • Public buildings
    • Downtown buildings
    • Schools (public and private)
    • Highway and railroad crossings
    • Manholes
    • Repaired and unrepaired gas leaks
  • Perform Advanced Mobile Leak Survey related work orders (LISAs and Gap Surveys), as applicable
  • Inspect, calibrate, maintain, and/or repair leakage survey tools and equipment
  • Safely drive and maintain company vehicle, which may include operating an Advanced Mobile Leak Survey unit (as applicable)
  • Complete and/or update reports including but not limited to:
    • Gas leaks and work logs
    • Equipment maintenance reports
    • Time entry
    • Vehicle inspections (monthly and quarterly)
    • Fire extinguisher inspections (monthly and annually)
  • Assist with Customer Service tasks such as gas service turn-offs, remediation of above ground leaks through lubrication, adjusting, and tightening
  • Review completed survey work for accuracy and completeness (as applicable)
  • Meet with RCC/OCC (as applicable)
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education Requirements

High school diploma is preferred.

Experience

  • Working knowledge of leakage survey procedures
  • Working knowledge of use, function, and maintenance of leakage survey tools, equipment, and applications
  • Working knowledge in application of basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (tested)
  • Working knowledge and training relative to:
    • Company and governmental operating/safety procedures
    • Basic customer service activities
    • Changing charts
    • Locating lines
    • Characteristics of natural gas
    • Calculations and/or classification of gas leak severity levels
    • Transmission and distribution pipeline system operations
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, plats, atlas pages, diagrams, dials, gauges, work logs, job orders, and applicable operation and repair manuals
  • Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English

Licenses and Certifications

  • Required applicable driver’s license

Additional Requirements

  • Lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds 3–5 times a day; up to 20 pounds 10–15 times a day
  • Travel over uneven terrain including but not limited to:
    • Mud
    • Gravel
    • Sand
    • Rocks
    • Ice
    • Snow
  • Walk, stand, kneel/stoop, and drive for extended periods
  • Push spud bar in ground and extract
  • React immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others
  • Smell odorant in natural gas
  • Operate tools and equipment required
  • Communicate and/or exchange information or instructions including use of company two-way radio
  • Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties
