About the role

The Field Technician II role requires a strong technical and mechanical background with experience on the latest generation transport gear, critical infrastructure, and knowledge of locating fiber optic cable. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting network equipment, installing and testing Next Generation technologies, performing preventive maintenance, and maintaining site security.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots network equipment, removes/replaces defective equipment, and works with resources to isolate and restore network.
  • Proactively identifies potential problem areas to ensure network integrity.
  • Assists other personnel in completing installation, change, and decommission tasks, as well as testing of Next Generation technologies.
  • Installs and tests network and customer equipment (CPE).
  • Maintains asset management processes and replenishes on-site/truck materials.
  • Coordinates shipping and receiving of company and customer materials.
  • Performs preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure equipment, including HVAC systems, high-voltage electrical systems, and DC power plants.
  • Updates inventory records and completes transactional updates within systems to show appropriate activities by job type.
  • Provides status updates and reports problem situations related to assignments to management.

Requirements

The ideal candidate should have 2+ years of experience in installation, test, and turn-up of a variety of telecommunications equipment, including SONET, DCS, DWDM, routers, and switches. Must have a high degree of experience and/or knowledge in at least two of the following technician disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7), TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols), and Outside Plant (fiber locating, OTDR, mass fusion splicing, etc.). Must maintain site security and cleanliness.

Qualifications

Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record. Must possess PC skills and be proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office applications. Must have attention to detail and good organizational and time management skills. Must be able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; lift up to 50 pounds; and work in all weather conditions.

Skills

Proficient in all systems and applications required to perform the job function adequately. Must have the ability to quickly learn corporate databases. On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis, on stand-by, call out, dispatch, and overtime are required as dictated by the business.
