Field Technician I - INDIANAPOLIS, IN
About the role
The Field Technician I position at Lumen is responsible for managing assets, troubleshooting network equipment, and performing various maintenance tasks. This role requires a combination of technical skills and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Processes deliveries and replenishes consumables
- Maintains tools, test sets, and electronic equipment
- Assists in installs, provisions, tests, and maintains DS0 thru OC192 services
- Troubleshoots network equipment, removes and replaces defective modules
- Monitors/locates route and assists in executing restoration in the event of a service interruption
- Performs preventive/scheduled maintenance and inspections on equipment and critical infrastructure
- Updates installation records, logs trouble tickets, and provides reports on status updates and issues
- Performs level 1 preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure equipment
- Utilizes industry standard software and hardware tools to accurately locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities
- May install and test network and customer premise equipment (CPE)
- Understands and evaluates basic installation/change/decommissioning/testing of transport, Ethernet, SONET and IP network layers for all available bandwidths offered
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Up to 2 years of relevant job experience including 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair
- Entry-level technician with experience and/or knowledge of at least one of the four major technician disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7), TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols), and Outside Plant (Fiber locating, OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.)
- Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts
- Maintain site security and cleanliness
- PC skills and proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office applications
- Ability to quickly learn corporate databases
- On-call 24x7 on a rotational basis, on stand-by, call out, dispatch, and overtime are required as dictated by the business
- Valid driver’s license

- 2+ years of relevant job experience
- Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities
- Ability to prioritize with good time management skills

Pay
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors. The base salary range for this position is $41,310 - $54,570 in these states: IN.
Schedule
Regular hours are typically Monday through Friday, with occasional on-call and overtime requirements.
