About the Role

A Collections Field Technician safely visits customer properties, delivers service disconnection notices, or executes meter cut-offs and restorations while maintaining customer relations and regulatory compliance. This role is ideal for individuals who prefer being active rather than sitting behind a desk and involves working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Turn off natural gas services safely when accounts remain unpaid past the final notice deadline (service disconnection).
  • Turn gas meters back on and light pilot lights after customers pay past-due balances (service restoration).
  • Inspect utility meters for signs of tampering, theft of service, or unauthorized usage.
  • Explain billing disputes, payment options, and company policies calmly and professionally to customers.
  • Follow strict safety protocols and federal and local regulations when handling gas lines and wearing protective gear.
  • Walk approximately 4–7 miles per day, bend, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Operate specialized gas detection technology to identify potential leaks.
  • Use simple hand tools and read utility maps.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions and remain on your feet for extended periods.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to pass a DOT drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop on varying terrain, and to lift heavy items.
  • Ability to walk 4–7 miles per day in all weather conditions.
  • Strong reliability and accountability.
  • Proficient using technology (smartphone, tablet).
  • Works well within a group as well as individually.

Preferred (but not required): Customer service experience. No industry experience necessary — we value work ethic, dependability, and a safety-first mindset.

Vehicle Program

Employees in this role participate in Heath’s Personally Owned Vehicle (POV) Program, which provides financial support for local travel. To qualify, you must:

  • Have active auto insurance with minimum $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 coverage or $300,000 combined single limit.
  • Provide proof of insurance before your first day and at each policy renewal.
  • Have a 4-door vehicle with a backup camera, hands-free capability, and professional appearance.
  • Allow installation of a Heath-provided telematics (non-camera GPS) device in your vehicle.
