About the role
Perform Certified Weld Inspections (CWI) on a variety of on-site construction projects and support AET’s construction materials testing (CMT) with observations and testing of materials. Services are performed to industry standards including AWS, ASME, ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, and IBC, as well as state laws governing professional services, in accordance with AET’s QA/QC procedures. The Technician will coordinate with AET project managers to deliver site visit inspection reports and communicate with on-site construction personnel.
Responsibilities
- Perform CWI observations on active construction sites.
- Interpret results and prepare reports documenting findings.
- Assist in developing, updating, and maintaining QA procedures.
- Maintain current procedures and equipment calibrations.
- Maintain client contact for ongoing projects and interface with the project manager to prepare proposals and schedule laboratory and field testing activities.
- Assist in the promotion and marketing of AET.
- Train to obtain and maintain certifications.
- Stay abreast of current technologies utilized by AET.
- Conduct field, laboratory, and office activities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as AET’s QA and Health and Safety Policies.
- Interact successfully with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues constructively, and work independently in the field.
- Provide work direction to junior technicians as needed.
Requirements
- Current American Welding Society (AWS) certification as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- BS degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Physical Science and a minimum of 6 months of experience, OR 2 years of Technical School and 1 year of experience, OR High School Diploma with 2 years of experience.
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Skills
- Certifications in Construction Materials Testing and Inspections: ACI Concrete Field, DOT – Concrete, Aggregate, Asphalt, Nuclear Density Gauge Operator.
Work Environment
- Primarily operates in a professional office environment.
- May require field work in outdoor conditions on sites with uneven ground and adverse weather.
- Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
Physical Demands
- Occasionally move 50-70 pounds.
- Stand up to 80% of the day, often on uneven surfaces.
- Move up to 80% of the day, with frequent climbing, bending, and stooping.
- Occasionally work in confined spaces.
- Occasionally work at elevations up to 200 feet, using proper safety equipment as necessary.
Pay
Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $25.00 to $30.00 per hour based on skill set and experience.
