Field Systems Technician
About the role
The Field System Technician will perform servicing, repair, and installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Toll Collection Systems (TCS), and Network Communication Systems (NCS).
Responsibilities
- Document and report customer and revenue facing tolling issues proactively.
- Identify potential exceptions through automated control reports, system data analysis, discussions with external service providers, and external interface data analysis.
- Respond to corrective maintenance requests and alarms within allotted time frames.
- Maintain remote systems to ensure optimal uptime.
- Isolate faults in units and/or components.
- Diagnose and repair hardware, software, and system issues.
- Complete work order reports and logs.
- Communicate shift-to-shift as per established policies, procedures, and local practices.
- Actively escalate system issues and systemic problems to system maintenance.
- Collaborate with system maintenance on approaches to resolve issues.
- Review proposed changes to the system.
- Support testing and verification of system changes after implementation.
- Install, prevent, and correct maintenance of toll collection equipment, including lane controllers, RFID, power supplies, closed circuit television cameras, microwave vehicle detectors, network components, and dynamic message signs.
- Maintain spare equipment and parts, including inventory management and documentation.
- Install electrical conductors, data conductors, and fiber optic cable in both conduits and roadside cabinets.
- Perform power, data, and RF cable testing, terminating, and splicing.
- Terminate, splice, bond/ground, document, and test fiber optic cables.
- Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity.
- Connect electrical conductors to power services to energize equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in field support, information technology, tolling systems, and/or intelligent transportation systems, and/or 240/480v utility work, or fiber optic installation/repair.
- Good working knowledge of Windows operating systems.
- Some experience working with Linux preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate computer proficiency, especially as to Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and other PC-based programs.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Reporting and documentation skills.
- Able to manage tasks, deadlines, and individuals through vendor contracts.
- Ability and willingness to work alternate work schedules, including weekends and night shifts.
- May be required to work off hours on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and moving traffic.
- Frequent exposure to noise levels in the work environment.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, squat, crawl, reach, and maneuver in tight spaces and above ground via bucket truck.
- Must be able to work in elevated positions in various kinds of weather conditions.
- Local travel that will be required, ability to drive a company vehicle.
Compensation
$75,000 to $80,000 annually. The salary/hourly range above represents the full pay band for this position. Actual compensation offered will be determined based on a candidate's relevant experience, skills, certifications, and qualifications at the time of hire, and may fall at any point within this range. In limited circumstances, compensation above the posted range may be considered for an exceptionally qualified candidate.
