Field Solutions Engineer III
About the role
The Field Solutions Engineer will focus on Hybrid/Cloud and Managed Services (CMS), and Large Retail Colocation opportunities. This role involves providing pre-sales technical expertise to the National Sales Team through direct interaction with prospects via calls and in-person meetings. The successful candidate will design and document cloud and dedicated architectures that meet clients’ application, performance, and budgetary requirements, and support retail colocation opportunities up to 500KW.
Responsibilities
- Attend qualified sales calls and customer meetings (travel may be required) to architect Cloud and Managed Services solutions, including Hybrid Colocation for new logo customers.
- Provide highly consultative customer interactions, analyzing requirements to deliver custom solutions based on functionality and performance.
- Support sales teams nationally, with regional affinity, by creating technical drawings, designs, and narratives that highlight the business impact of recommended solutions.
- Stay current on all product offerings and industry trends and technologies.
- Create complete and accurate documentation for Implementation teams upon successful deal closure.
- Design and formally present complex CMS/Hybrid solutions to potential customers.
- Ask open-ended questions to uncover critical business drivers and gather data to formulate solutions.
- Create quotes and present solutions to potential clients based on Flexential’s benefits and capabilities.
- Provide regional datacenter tours when necessary.
- Perform other assigned duties, supply information to post-sale resources, and provide ad hoc implementation support.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent experience (preferred).
- A minimum of 8-15 years of experience in industry-relevant sales, consulting, or sales engineering.
- Demonstrated ability to design and explain solutions to both business and technical audiences.
- Technical expertise in cloud platforms, hypervisor technologies (e.g., VMware, AWS, Hyper-V, Azure, Google Compute Platform), and x86 enterprise server hardware and operating systems (Windows, Linux).
- Working knowledge of MySQL, MS-SQL, and Oracle database environments, including high-availability deployments.
- Depth of knowledge in SANs, storage design, firewalls, load balancers, switches, and data center infrastructure components.
- Understanding of DR best practices and the ability to connect technical solutions to business impact in failover scenarios.
- Strong working knowledge of data center and IT security best practices.
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and organized with excellent communication, presentation, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment, address challenges during sales conversations, and turn around complex solutions quickly and accurately.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and insurance (travel up to 10% of the time).

Pay
The annual base pay range for this position is $185,000 - $215,000, depending on experience, location, and qualifications. This role is also eligible for commission, with an expected annual target of $50,000 - $60,000 based on performance.
Schedule
This is a hybrid position requiring in-office work 2 days per week. The role is based in either Denver, CO (HQ) or Hillsboro, OR (Data Center). After-hours networking and customer interaction may be required.
