Field Services Technician - Tier I

Socket is seeking a skilled Field Services Technician - Tier I to deliver expert onsite installation services for residential customers, ensuring a seamless experience as they connect to Socket's fiber network. This role requires travel to various service areas and the ability to work in diverse conditions.

About the role

This is a driveway-to-driveway, customer-focused installation position where you’ll be the face of our service from start to finish. Using a company-provided vehicle, you’ll manage your day through our ticketed scheduling system, completing each assigned install with professionalism and pride.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent installations and repairs for residential and business internet and phone services.
• Install and configure customer equipment, including routers, modems, and Wi-Fi gateways.
• Deliver an exceptional customer experience by being professional, friendly, and knowledgeable during all service visits.
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity and service issues with accuracy and efficiency.
• Install, terminate, and test network cabling, adhering to all relevant codes and standards.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation of service activities.
• Safely operate company vehicles and equipment, including ladders and bucket trucks, in accordance with all safety protocols and DOT/OSHA regulations.
• Maintain a clean driving record and represent Socket with professionalism in the field.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Relevant experience in telecommunications, networking, or field service.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with no restrictions.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Comfortable and able to work in both underground and aerial environments (e.g., climbing ladders up to 32ft and operating a bucket truck).
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
• Able to enter and safely operate a bucket truck with a weight limit of 300 lbs.
• Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work on Saturdays and/or Sundays.
• Willingness to obtain a class E license if offered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience with CAT3 and CAT5 cabling, including installation, termination, and testing.
• Working knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies and basic networking principles.
• Ability to test and install customer ADSL/xDSL circuit orders with the appropriate local exchange carrier (LEC).
• Knowledge of cable pulling, terminations, closet buildouts, and compliance with building and fire codes.
