About the role
The Field Service Technician is responsible for advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and infrastructure supporting the Memphis SmartWay system.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on ITS systems
- Respond to and resolve trouble tickets within required timelines
- Diagnose and repair complex issues across multiple ITS devices
- Maintain and support systems including CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, wireless communications, fiber optic networks, and network equipment
- Perform utility locating for fiber and power infrastructure
- Install, upgrade, modify, and replace ITS equipment as required
- Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot system faults
- Maintain accurate daily logs, labor tracking, and service records
- Receive and manage inventory and assist with material requests
- Support subcontractors and ensure work meets quality and specification standards
- Assist and guide junior technicians in field operations
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, or +6 years of relevant field experience (ITS or similar preferred)
- Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, fiber optic, and network systems
- Experience with electronic testing equipment
- Knowledge of low voltage systems, networking, and wireless communications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and basic Office tools
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Outdoor and roadside work near active traffic and elevated equipment
- On-call rotation (approximately one week per month)
- Non-standard hours including nights and weekends as needed
- Highly desired: Experience with ITS/SmartWay systems, Hands-on work with CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, and network infrastructure, RF or microwave communication experience, Roadside or transportation system experience, CDL preferred or ability to obtain one
Qualifications
- Must have working rights in the United States and pass a background check

- Hands-on work with CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, and network infrastructure
- RF or microwave communication experience
- Roadside or transportation system experience
- CDL preferred or ability to obtain one
