About the role

The Field Service Technician is responsible for advanced maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and infrastructure supporting the Memphis SmartWay system.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on ITS systems
  • Respond to and resolve trouble tickets within required timelines
  • Diagnose and repair complex issues across multiple ITS devices
  • Maintain and support systems including CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, wireless communications, fiber optic networks, and network equipment
  • Perform utility locating for fiber and power infrastructure
  • Install, upgrade, modify, and replace ITS equipment as required
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot system faults
  • Maintain accurate daily logs, labor tracking, and service records
  • Receive and manage inventory and assist with material requests
  • Support subcontractors and ensure work meets quality and specification standards
  • Assist and guide junior technicians in field operations

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Electronics, Computer Science, or +6 years of relevant field experience (ITS or similar preferred)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, fiber optic, and network systems
  • Experience with electronic testing equipment
  • Knowledge of low voltage systems, networking, and wireless communications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and basic Office tools
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Outdoor and roadside work near active traffic and elevated equipment
  • On-call rotation (approximately one week per month)
  • Non-standard hours including nights and weekends as needed
  • Highly desired: Experience with ITS/SmartWay systems, Hands-on work with CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, and network infrastructure, RF or microwave communication experience, Roadside or transportation system experience, CDL preferred or ability to obtain one

Qualifications

  • Must have working rights in the United States and pass a background check

Skills

  • Working knowledge of ITS/SmartWay systems
  • Hands-on work with CCTV, DMS, HAR, detection systems, and network infrastructure
  • RF or microwave communication experience
  • Roadside or transportation system experience
  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain one
