HybridFull-time

Zero Hiring is partnering with OpConnect, an established Electric Vehicle (EV) charging solutions provider, to recruit a Field Service Technician for their Mid–Southern California territory. OpConnect offers turnkey EV solutions, including fueling infrastructure, a cloud-based software platform for payment processing, scheduling, and maintenance ticketing, plus support services for users. Their EV fueling management software provides control and data analytics for charging station owners and can be used as a cloud-based solution or licensed for branded fuel services. The platform includes mobile apps for locating and paying for charging, and web portals for account management and data analytics.

About the role

We are seeking a self-driven Field Service Technician to join our client's team. In this role, you will be the primary boots-on-the-ground resource for their EV charging station network, traveling to customer sites throughout the Mid–Southern California region to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and restore charging stations to full operation. This is a road-warrior position; the majority of your time will be spent in the field, working independently to solve real-world technical problems and deliver outstanding service to customers.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer and partner sites throughout the Mid–Southern California region (and occasionally beyond) to perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and preventive maintenance of EV charging stations
  • Diagnose and repair electromechanical failures using test equipment, multimeters, and hand tools; identify root causes and implement durable fixes to minimize repeat service calls
  • Configure and update software settings on EV chargers in the field, including communication capabilities, charging parameters, and network connectivity (Wi-Fi, cellular)
  • Serve as the primary point of contact on-site for customers and property managers in your region; communicate repair status, estimated timelines, and next steps in a clear and professional manner
  • Manage a company service vehicle, including stocking and organizing replacement parts, tools, and consumables needed for scheduled and unscheduled service calls
  • Document all field service activity accurately in the work order and ticketing system, including parts used, labor performed, photos, and resolution notes, to maintain complete service records
  • Coordinate with the Field Service Lead and support team to escalate complex issues, request parts, and ensure timely resolution of open service tickets

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on field service, electrical, or electromechanical repair experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; must be comfortable driving a service vehicle to multiple sites per day across the region
  • Proficiency with test and diagnostic equipment including multimeters, cable crimpers, and wire strippers; working knowledge of both building electrical and low-voltage wiring required
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively — up to 75% of working time in the field, including occasional overnight travel for sites within or outside of the region
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills; ability to represent the company professionally when on-site at customer locations, including commercial properties and multi-family residences
  • Experience with network infrastructure (Wi-Fi routers, cellular modems, switches) for field configuration and connectivity troubleshooting is preferred
  • Comfortable with mobile devices, laptop computers, and web-based field service management software for scheduling, dispatch, and work order completion
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules, including occasional evenings and weekends, to respond to urgent field service needs and minimize charger downtime for customers

Why Join

  • Opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and innovative projects
  • Collaborative and inclusive work environment
  • Professional development and growth opportunities

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid holidays and paid time off
  • Participation in Electric Vehicle Incentive Program
  • Participation in Company 401(k) Plan
