About the role

This position is for a hands-on Field Service Technician who will support Rivian vehicle repairs in Oklahoma and Arkansas. The role requires a collaborative, team-oriented individual capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. While based in a primary location, it may require operating remotely or traveling to various locations, including the production plant, to provide vehicle support as business needs demand. This is a level-agnostic posting designed to recruit candidates across various seniority levels; specific level availability fluctuates based on current business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections, whether at a service center or in the field directly at customer homes, businesses, or other convenient locations.
  • Identify and explain the Rivian product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories.
  • Utilize available technical resources to follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety.
  • Conduct road tests to ensure the quality of repairs.
  • Manage necessary parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory.
  • Identify areas of improvement and provide feedback to senior technicians or leadership.
  • Support service campaigns and containment initiatives.
  • Ensure that all work and technical notes are properly documented for internal and external use.
  • Work collaboratively with a team spirit and maintain high-quality work with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate with a high level of professionalism in customer-facing situations.
  • Stay current with technical skills and complete required training.
  • Interact with customers and their families, 3rd party affiliates, and suppliers within Rivian facilities, on mobile service routes, or at community outreach events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record, with no driving-related suspensions or revocations within a 3-5 year period.
  • Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer is preferred.
  • Must be available for a 40-hour work week, which may include weekends, holidays, and shifts during early morning, evening, or overnight hours based on business needs.
  • Proficient with laptops or computers in Windows or Mac environments.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., sitting, standing, walking, and frequent use of hands for grasping tools and data entry.
  • Physical exertion may be required to perform occupational tasks (sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, carrying, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.).
  • Ability to read and speak fluent English.
  • Ability to see, read, and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, or schematics.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on work experience in an automotive shop is highly preferred. Recent automotive graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • This role is open to various levels of experience, from entry-level to career technicians.
  • A background in electric vehicle (EV) or hybrid repair is considered a plus.
  • Experience in start-up environments is preferred.
  • Experience with parts departments, billing, and work order management systems is preferred.

Skills

  • Low Voltage & Electrical Systems: Foundational understanding of basic electricity theory and ability to safely use a DVOM for various circuit measurements. Proficiency in reading and leveraging electrical schematics as a diagnostic resource. Advanced candidates will demonstrate a deep understanding of automotive electronics, including CAN and LIN networks, and possess the ability to diagnose complex faults and perform wiring repairs according to manufacturer standards.
  • High Voltage Systems: Understanding of the risks involved with high voltage systems and the ability to safely power them down and work on them using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Includes understanding the function of various high voltage components and their monitoring systems. Highly skilled technicians will be capable of diagnosing complex high voltage faults related to charging, isolation, and interlock loop issues using the manufacturer’s diagnostic processes.
  • Chassis, Brakes & Suspension: Proficient in fundamental chassis service, including mounting and balancing tires, performing vehicle alignments, and replacing brake system components. Ability to diagnose mechanical suspension components and progress to repairing advanced vehicle dynamic issues related to traction control, ABS, and power steering. Top-tier candidates will be adept at resolving complex drivability concerns such as Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH).
  • Thermal Systems: Ability to service vehicle thermal systems, including performing a coolant drain-and-fill and safely handling refrigerant with a 609 certification. Comprehensive understanding of the entire A/C system and its components. Proficient use of an A/C machine and diagnosing a range of thermal system concerns, including issues with coolant systems, air conditioning performance, and HVAC systems.
  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): Working knowledge of ADAS, including a basic understanding of the features and their operation. Ability to replace system components and perform necessary calibrations. Advanced understanding includes knowing the functionality and limitations of the complete ADAS system and the specific roles of its various sensors.
  • Body & Glass: Responsibilities related to the vehicle body, including assisting with glass removal and installation, safely replacing windshields and other glued body fixtures. Ability to adjust body panels to specified tolerances and diagnose and repair issues such as wind noise and water leaks.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $22.50 – $32.16 per hour for Oklahoma-based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual performance bonus.
