Field Service Technician – HVAC / Building Automation
About the role
A growing HVAC and specialty controls organization is seeking a Field Service Technician to support mission critical and highly regulated environments throughout the NYC Metro area and surrounding regions.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, troubleshooting control systems, and supporting advanced HVAC airflow and building automation applications in the field.
The position focuses heavily on startup, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, and service of laboratory airflow controls, fume hood systems, and related DDC/BAS technologies.
Candidates can be based anywhere within reasonable commuting distance to NYC including Long Island, Westchester County, Rockland County, Fairfield County, or nearby surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
- Perform startup, commissioning, and field service of HVAC control systems and airflow equipment
- Troubleshoot low voltage electrical controls, DDC systems, sensors, and field devices
- Support maintenance, calibration, and certification of laboratory airflow and fume hood control systems
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics
- Aid in programming logic and sequence of operations for control systems
- Generate service documentation, field reports, and project updates
- Work closely with project managers, contractors, facility teams, and end users
- Provide excellent customer support while representing the company professionally on job sites
- Travel to customer sites throughout the region as needed
Requirements
Experience working with Building Automation Systems (BAS/DDC) or low voltage HVAC controls
Ability to read point-to-point wiring diagrams and control drawings
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
Comfortable using electrical testing equipment and hand tools
Understanding of HVAC systems including AHUs, exhaust systems, and airflow applications
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Excel
Experience with Visio and AutoCAD is a plus
Qualifications
A high school diploma is required; technical degree or trade school training is preferred
Previous experience within HVAC controls, laboratory controls, or building automation environments is preferred
A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required
