About the role
This position involves performing both shop and field repairs, maintenance service, and troubleshooting of diesel and gas generators, including automatic transfer switches, batteries, and load banks. The technician supports Martin, Saint Lucie, Indian River, and Brevard Counties.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical skills including mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting, and repair of generators
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of generators both during normal working hours and after-hours, weekends, and holidays as directed
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance service and/or repairs of generators
- Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, universal generator literature, and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or repairs
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties
- Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report them and any other unusual situations to the service manager in a timely manner
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly shop work areas, company vehicles, and job site work areas
- Drive company vehicle to and from job sites throughout the day. Overnight travel by land and/or air may be required on occasion
Required Experience
- Working knowledge of power generation systems and its components, including knowledge of the mechanical operation, associated hazards, and proper usage of the equipment in order to troubleshoot and accurately diagnose malfunctions
- Proficient with generator and transfer switch controls
- Strong mechanically and electrically
- Able to interpret schematics and operational manuals for practical application on repair and maintenance tasks
- Working knowledge of fundamental mathematical operations
- Able to take preventative safety measures to avoid electrical shock, limit exposure to loud noises, and prevent personal injury by using personal protective equipment, including the use of NFPA 70E protective equipment when applicable
- Skilled usage of mechanical tools utilized to repair and maintain generators and their components
- Able to perform duties in non-climate controlled environments such as outdoor weather conditions and non-weather related wet, humid, and/or extreme heat conditions
Qualifications
- High School or equivalent (GED)
- 5 to 7 years of related work experience or training or equivalent combination of both education and experience
- Motor Vehicle Record must be in good standing and comply with Company policy
- Experience on Generac, Caterpillar, Cummins, Kohler, Aksa, Blue Star, Taylor generators is a plus
