About the role

Sartorius is seeking a Field Service Engineer based remotely in the Chicago, IL area. The position involves supporting cutting-edge equipment, specifically the Ambr system, through installation, commissioning, calibration, and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation & commissioning, calibration, preventative maintenance and break fix repairs across a range of systems.
  • Maintain fault finding data and provide product performance feedback to customers and internal groups within Sartorius.
  • Acquire in-depth product knowledge and demonstrate self-improvement.
  • Conduct in-house service activities as needed.
  • Follow service procedures to ensure customer information and product software/configuration are up to date and accurate.
  • Make independent decisions regarding the repair of field equipment based on service level agreements and customers' support contract agreements.
  • Escalate system issues that cannot be resolved to relevant Product Support Engineers, Customer Support Engineers, and the Hardware Resource Coordinator.
  • Travel up to approximately 80% of the time (primarily within an assigned territory).

Requirements

  • Associate degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or equivalent military/trade school certificates in electronics/electrical technology.
  • Formal training in mechanical/electrical hardware setup and configuration, or field/building services engineering experience in lieu of a formal qualification.
  • 2+ years’ experience in a commissioning/test or field service/support environment within high-tech engineering/manufacturing companies, preferably on capital equipment.
  • Valid Driver's License and passport or the ability to obtain one.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical & I/O fault-finding at system and component level.
  • Experience with automation and/or robotics is a plus.
  • Understanding of automatic mechanisms and their associated electrical control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics, motors, conveyor systems, input/output modules, optical readers, pneumatics, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good understanding of mechanical/electrical drawings.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with MS Office.
  • Knowledge of clean room protocols, drug discovery, process development, cell culture technologies, and GMP environments is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of both Mammalian and Microbial cell cultures.
  • Bioreactors and their use to grow cell culture experience.
  • Experience configuring PCs and installing software packages (Windows OS).

Skills

  • Experience with and competency in measuring AC/DC voltages.
  • Experience with automated systems such as robotics.
  • Experience with automated equipment in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology industry.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 accreditation requirements and GMP/GDP.
  • Critical thinking skills.
