Since 1972, Artec Machine has been trusted for engineering design, parts, field repair, and maintenance of all types of heavy gear systems. We service everything from mills to military propulsion systems. Our experienced design engineering group can perform complex repair and replacement, rotor balancing, refurbishments, and rebuilds at our gearbox overhaul facility in Connecticut.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced field service engineer to support our existing customer base. Work will be based in-shop (North Branford) or on-site at customer facilities throughout North America (US, Canada, and periodic travel to South America). On-the-job training starts with a 6-month in-shop hands-on apprenticeship program. The role involves supervising the overhauling of customized gear systems, including installation, commissioning, inspection, diagnosis, and testing of damaged gear rotors and bearings. Strong customer interaction and reporting skills are essential to develop and optimize our customer base.

Responsibilities

  • Install equipment, ensuring all components and assemblies are properly integrated
  • Provide phone service and on-site troubleshooting and repair
  • Prepare service reports to document activities
  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Identify and coordinate parts required for repair with customer and service department
  • Suggest and recommend spare parts or corrective actions, providing written service call reports to the service department and customers
  • Keep accurate records of all hours logged, inventory parts used, and services performed
  • Work in-shop to assist with production, repairs, and overhauls when not traveling to client sites
  • Travel to North American customer sites, completing drug, alcohol, and safety testing per individual client requirements

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record (MVR)
  • Hands-on experience with rotating equipment (gears, compressors, pumps, generators, and gas/steam turbines) is a plus
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a strong asset
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, technical environment
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Availability for travel within North America (40%–60% travel, including overnights outside the local area)
  • Good health and physical ability to perform fieldwork

Qualifications

  • Engineering or technical degree or certification in mechanical or marine engineering, or a similar field
  • At least five (5) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience
  • Prior experience with mechanical systems, industrial machines, and/or robotics
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical devices
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, schematics, and machine specifications
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to creatively troubleshoot technical issues

$90,000 – $120,000 per year (based on experience)

Monday to Friday, with overtime as needed
