Field Safety Specialist

Organizational Level: Intermediate safety management position with a developmental focus toward promotion to Safety Specialist III. Reports to the Site Safety Manager.

About the Role

Work closely with the Construction Manager, Superintendents, Field Staff, Owners, and Subcontractors to promote company Core Principles, a proactive safety culture, and policies and procedures. Represent Signal Energy professionally with clients, subcontractors, local officials, and others.

Responsibilities

• Support the Site Safety Manager in managing renewable energy project injury and illness prevention plans for construction activities, including roads, foundations, high voltage electrical works, substations, and generation components.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and the project injury and illness prevention plan by collaborating with the Site Safety Manager, Project Manager, Construction Manager, and project staff.
• Perform audit, inspection, and surveillance activities in accordance with the project injury and illness prevention plan.
• Assess work safety, track corrective actions, and ensure adherence to the project injury and illness prevention plan and Signal Energy Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Complete incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the project injury and illness prevention plan, including emergency action, response, evacuation, and security plans.
• Verify that all project personnel have the requisite safety training pertinent to their scope of work.
• Other duties as required.

Requirements

• Knowledge of technical and safety management aspects of construction project activities.
• Understanding of public and construction safety and security issues and regulations.
• Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements, including Federal and State OSHA, EPA, and others.
• Strong leadership and influence skills.
• Effective time management and ability to work independently under limited supervision.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with all levels of staff, owners, and clients.
• Ability to conduct incident investigations and develop reports with minimal supervision.
• Capability to identify and correct unsafe acts and conditions in the field.
• Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly and work independently.
• Computer literacy and basic knowledge of MS Office.
• Physical demands include mobility on construction sites, working at height, occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds, and exposure to hot/cold/high noise environments.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in construction safety management or related field and/or three years of construction safety management experience.
• Safety auditing experience and knowledge of OSHA standards.
• OSHA 510/500 certification.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• BCSP or other equivalent Safety Certifications.
• NFPA 70E certification.
