Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct both virtual and on-site investigations to assess property damage, determine liability, and negotiate fair settlements.
  • Use claims handling software and a company car to determine claims-related damage and write estimates in a paperless environment.
  • Evaluate and report on potential subrogation opportunities.
  • Report incidents involving theft, fraud, or arson to appropriate state and industry agencies.
  • Engage regularly with a variety of stakeholders, including policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, contractors, law enforcement, fraud and arson investigators, attorneys, medical professionals, and other relevant parties.
  • Negotiate with policyholders to settle claims using strong customer service skills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Promote safety at all times and comply with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company manuals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent customer service experience, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Construction or insurance experience is highly desirable and preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written.
  • Computer literate: MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Proficient with smartphones and applications.
  • Eagerness to learn about insurance policies and property damage from the inside out to identify how coverage applies to a particular loss.
  • Outgoing personality that enjoys interacting with a wide variety of people including policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, and fraud investigators.
  • Valid driver's license and bondable.

Physical Demands

Employees assigned to the Catastrophe team will be required to travel away from their residence for a specified period of time, usually consisting of 23 days. Although this is not a CAT-specific role, hires will be expected to commit to 1–3 CAT deployments per year.

Final candidates will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check as this position may include a company vehicle.

Physical actions and environment: Bending, kneeling, pulling, pushing, carrying up to 50 lbs., climbing, reaching, standing, walking, seeing, speaking (English), reading (English), writing (English), and key entering are required. Exposure to some or all of the following environments when in the field: uncontrolled outside environmental conditions, excessive noise levels, chemicals, moving mechanical parts, areas considered dangerous, conditions which could affect the respiratory system or skin such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, oils, smoke, soot, or poor ventilation.
