About the role

The Field Operations Manager leads and develops the construction field operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and with exceptional quality, aligning with AOI's high standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead & Develop People: Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Superintendents and field personnel. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular jobsite visits to coach employees, evaluate performance, remove obstacles, and strengthen relationships. Support career development through performance reviews, coaching, and skills assessments. Reinforce AOI's Core Values, professionalism, and customer-first culture.

  • Drive Field Operations: Develop manpower strategies to ensure projects are appropriately staffed with the right people, equipment, and resources. Lead weekly manpower planning meetings and maintain accurate workforce schedules. Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and executive leadership to forecast staffing needs and adjust resources as project demands change. Standardize field operations and continuously improve construction processes, documentation, and workflows. Ensure proper management of company tools, vehicles, and equipment. Stay current on industry trends, construction technologies, and best practices. Assist in developing and implementing standardized operating procedures (SOPs) that improve consistency and efficiency across field operations.

  • Champion Safety: Promote AOI's commitment to safety through leadership and accountability. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client-specific safety requirements. Conduct jobsite safety audits and reinforce PPE compliance. Investigate and document incidents, near misses, and safety concerns while driving corrective actions.

  • Support Operational Excellence: Partner closely with Project Managers to understand project scope, schedules, milestones, and client expectations. Identify opportunities to improve productivity, communication, and field execution. Help ensure projects have the equipment, materials, and resources necessary for success. Perform additional leadership responsibilities as needed to support the Construction Division.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of commercial construction experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven success leading Superintendents, Project Managers, Estimators, and field teams on complex commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of labor planning, scheduling, procurement, project controls, estimating, and self-performed carpentry operations.
  • Experience with multiple delivery methods including GMP, CM at Risk, Design-Build, Design Assist, IPD, and Master Agreements preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Procore, Bluebeam, and construction management software (Timberline preferred).
  • Valid Iowa or Nebraska driver's license.
  • OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, Fire Extinguisher Training, and Asbestos Awareness certification preferred or obtainable within six months of hire.
