Field Municipal Staff Engineer

Responsibilities

• Aid in observing and documenting construction activities for municipal and utility infrastructure projects.
• Support senior staff with monitoring contractor work to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, permits, and standards.
• Prepare daily field reports documenting project progress, site conditions, installed quantities, and completed work.
• Take and organize photographic documentation of construction progress and key milestones.
• Communicate with contractors, municipal representatives, utility companies, and project team members regarding field activities and project updates.
• Attend construction meetings and assist with documenting discussions, action items, and project progress.
• Assist with verifying materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project requirements and quality standards.
• Support the review process for shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders under the guidance of senior staff.
• Maintain project schedules and communicate potential delays or field concerns to project managers.
• Monitor job site safety practices and report unsafe conditions when identified.
• Assist with project closeout activities, including punch list preparation and final inspections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering field required.
• Internship or co-op experience in construction, transportation, municipal engineering, or utilities is a plus.
• Interest in municipal infrastructure, construction inspection, and field engineering.
• Basic understanding of construction methods, engineering plans, and specifications preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout New Jersey as needed.

Pay

The projected compensation range for this position is $70,000 to $77,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, skill set and location.
