Field Mining Geologist

About the role
The Geologist - Mining role involves collecting, interpreting, and generating geological information related to Ore Control safely and efficiently. You will control all geological definitions in the field, audit operations and material handling, and maintain the integrity of block-outs as defined by the Ore Control geologist. This position supports Ore Control with field geology information, providing new interpreted geological features for models and investigating the relationship between geological characteristics and ore.
The main duties include blasthole logging, pit mapping, muck characterization, modeling geological features, and auditing mine operations. This role is 60% field-based and 40% office-based. You will maintain a short-range geological model using tools like Vulcan and Leapfrog, audit field practices, identify operational risks, and integrate best practices related to mining systems. You will also prepare reports, communicate sampling results, and support or replace the Ore Control Geologist as needed.
Responsibilities
- Log blastholes, map pit walls, and characterize muck material.
- Maintain an interpreted geological model for short-range use.
- Audit and report field practices related to sampling, drilling, and mining.
- Identify, communicate, and participate in solutions for operational risks or substandard processes.
- Conduct daily checks of block-out field marks and understand ore movement and dilution.
- Integrate best practices related to Minestar, routing, misrouting reporting, and operational improvements.
- Audit sampling methodologies and communicate results to the Senior Geologist.
- Identify shortcomings in compliance processes and develop solutions.
- Prepare reports and presentations as required.
- Support or replace the Ore Control Geologist when needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology.
- Knowledge of logging, mapping, interpreting, and ore control processes.
- Understanding of the relationship between geology and Ore Control.
- 1 year of experience in ore control preferred.
- Proficiency in geological software such as Vulcan and Leapfrog; familiarity with other geology or Ore Control software is recommended.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs, talk, hear, and see.
- Must be able to work 12-hour shifts.
- Occasionally lift moderately heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
- Work in a surface mine environment with exposure to temperature and humidity extremes.
- Wear personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and other required gear.

Haile Gold Mine is located in South Carolina, the largest gold mine on the East Coast of America. The mine is situated close to Charlotte, NC, between the mountains and the sea, with 84% of employees living in the surrounding community.
