Field Layout Technician

Responsibilities
- Perform and aid in construction layout using Trimble/Leica robotic total stations to support field validation, QA/QC, and project accuracy.
- Verify field measurements, benchmarks, and calculations against drawings and project requirements.
- Plan, execute, and document field survey activities in line with project team standards.
- Conduct as-built surveys and update documentation accordingly.
- Coordinate control points, schedules, and layout tasks with project teams, general contractors, and subcontractors.
- Work closely with the BIM and operations team.
- Ensure equipment is organized, calibrated, and up to date with proper firmware.
- Promote quality and customer satisfaction by serving as a liaison between field teams and clients.
- Provide clear communication and support to project superintendents, managers, and field personnel.
- Support existing conditions of surveys and pre-construction field validations.
- Other duties assigned by Sr. Site Field Technicians.
Requirements
For candidates with 0–3 years of experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or associate degree preferred).
- 0–3 years of experience in a field service, construction, or technical support role (industry-specific experience a plus).
- Knowledge of robotic total stations; 2+ years of Trimble RTS usage is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, shop drawings, and plans.
- Experience with Autodesk Point Layout, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, or BIM 360 is a plus.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with Operations team.
- Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel to job sites.
- Familiarity with hand tools, testing equipment, and safety procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
For candidates with 10+ years of experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical training or associate degree preferred).
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in construction or the AEC industry.
- Strong knowledge of robotic total stations; 10+ years of Trimble RTS usage required.
- Strong knowledge of electrical installation and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, shop drawings, and plans.
- Experience with Autodesk Point Layout, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, or BIM 360 required.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- Valid driver’s license with willingness to travel to job sites.
- Familiarity with hand tools, testing equipment, and safety procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
Physical Demands
- The job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, and rain.
- Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses always), respirator when required.
- Able to work 8–10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required, including night shifts.
- Includes crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching.
- Able to routinely lift heavy objects more than 50 pounds and pushing and pulling of objects is required.
- Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
- Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.
