FIELD INSPECTOR II

Summary

Ensures that contractors performing MARTA rapid rail and facilities projects comply with applicable building codes, regulations, contract specifications, and drawings through ongoing, regular inspections, usually in a specific area of assignment or expertise (i.e., architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, rail, etc.). Manages several projects simultaneously. May mentor and/or train lower-level field inspection staff.

Requirements

  • This position has direct responsibility for transit safety oversight at MARTA and is required to comply with the training requirements identified in the Authority’s Agency Safety Plan.

    • The Georgia Program Standard

Summary of Duties

  • Makes sure that construction activities, materials, workmanship, and products meet the approved construction contract documents.
  • Prepares, submits, and maintains daily records of work activities, quantities used, and conditions at the job site.
  • Conducts inspections and site observations as needed to document the quality of work being installed.
  • Reports documented work quality issues to the Quality Assurance Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
  • Redlines contract documents as minor changes are made in the field.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of project quality control plans.
  • Recommends corrective/preventive actions and implements necessary action plans to correct deficiencies.
  • Works closely with the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer to understand technical data and submittals associated with the assigned project.
  • Aids the Resident Engineer and Office Engineer with the technical review of project submittals and RFIs.
  • Provides quantity verifications for progress payments.
  • Reports any safety or project schedule deviations to the Project Safety Engineer and the Resident Engineer.
  • May mentor and/or train lower-level inspection staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations

  • OSHA 30 and Authority's Safety Compliance certifications preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Walks or stands for a minimum of 6 hours per shift.
  • Must kneel, squat, stoop, or bend to perform tasks.
  • Climb and descend stairs.
  • Reach from floor level to overhead.
  • Occasionally lift and carry equipment or supplies weighing up to 50+ pounds.
