Status: Full-time (40 hrs per week)
Reports to: Planning & Development Manager
Location: Corporate Office, Planning & Development Department, 420 S. Doolittle Road, Edinburg, TX 78542

About the role

Assists the Planning & Development Manager with the oversight of the construction of new installations and other types of construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with the plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates water tie-ins with the construction crews; assists in the opening and closing of valves, flow control, and customer notifications.
  • Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions for all installations and layouts.
  • Creates reports and completes required regulatory compliance documentation as needed.
  • Creates detailed sketches or notes, and coordinates bacteriological tests.
  • Inspects materials to be used in new construction and for bedding for pipelines.
  • Interprets blueprints and specifications for the contractor, and works with the Planning and Development Manager to address any recommended deviations from specified construction plans to ensure compliance with all regulations.
  • Keeps the Planning & Development Manager apprised at all times regarding project progress and any deviation from original plans.
  • Participates in job-specific training and other various required corporate training programs.
  • Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two years prior work experience in a related position.
  • Current Texas Driver License and must be insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter.
  • Must obtain a Type I Waste Water Collection Operator License, Class C Water Distribution License, and a Customer Service Inspector license through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 12–18 months of hire.
  • Must be current with TCEQ required coursework for the position.
  • Good communication skills to effectively present information to employees and management.
  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Strong familiarity and working knowledge of blueprints and all rules and regulations pertaining to water supply corporation construction and installations.
  • Good judgment and ability to exercise discretion in the performance of daily duties.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the workweek with occasional weekends or late hours as needed.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in a generally loud noise environment.

Preferences

  • Prior experience working with a water supply corporation or public utility is preferred.
