Field Generator Technician - Bakken Region
Position Overview
As a Power Generation Technician, you will inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair generators, light towers, power distribution systems, and related equipment that support oilfield and industrial operations throughout Eastern Montana and the Bakken region. This is a hands-on field and shop position based in the Fairview, MT area, supporting operations across Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, and other EnerStar districts as needed.
What You'll Do
Equipment Maintenance & Repair - Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain diesel-powered generators and related equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on generators, engines, alternators, load banks, light towers, and power distribution systems. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control system issues. Respond to field service calls and customer support requests as required. Complete equipment inspections and identify potential reliability concerns before failures occur.
Field Operations Support - Travel to customer locations and field sites throughout Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, and surrounding areas. Assist with generator mobilization, commissioning, and startup activities. Support rig moves, equipment relocations, and other field operations as required. Assist operations teams during emergency response mobilizations.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all EnerStar, customer, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements. Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and inspection documentation. Conduct work safely and professionally at all times.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with Operations, Logistics, Dispatch, and Sales teams. Support technicians and share technical expertise when needed. Contribute ideas that improve equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
Required
A high school diploma or equivalent
A valid driver's license with a clean driving record
3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing generators, diesel engines, heavy equipment, industrial equipment, or related machinery
Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems
Ability to travel as needed
Ability to work overtime when operational demands require it
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and tools
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
PREFERRED
Power generation experience
Generator manufacturer training or certifications
Diesel, electrical, or mechanical certifications
Experience working in the oil and gas industry
Experience with CAT, Cummins, Multiquip, Generac, or similar equipment
Knowledge of 12V/24V DC systems and industrial AC power systems
