About the role

United Steel, New England's largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals, is seeking a Field Foreman for Miscellaneous Metals Field Operations. This position leads and controls skilled labor and work crews engaged in all aspects of erection works, optimizing resources (manpower, equipment, and materials) to ensure efficient and timely project completion.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills, follow policies and procedures, and develop improvements where necessary.
  • Read, interpret, and follow method statements, procedures, blueprints, specifications, drawings, and other project documentation.
  • Maintain records of all completed work and completion of “Action Lists.”
  • Build respect among the workforce and develop excellent working relationships with department personnel, customers, and other trades.
  • Communicate effectively and provide clear instructions to the workforce.
  • Liaise with other discipline foremen to optimize work utilization for successful project completion.
  • Lead and supervise workers in construction, layout, and fabrication of structural works.
  • Supervise crews in raising, placing, and uniting girders, columns, and other structural steel members.
  • Set up lifting and hoisting equipment and verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel.
  • Ensure work crews are properly supplied with tools, equipment, and materials while preventing wastage and misuse.
  • Supervise manpower and materials to minimize absenteeism, unsafe work practices, and idleness.
  • Enforce Company QA/QC and safety procedures/regulations strictly.
  • Maintain the highest level of safety during all project stages to prevent incidents or accidents.
  • Identify, formulate, and implement “on-the-job” training programs for the workforce.
  • Directly supervise employees, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning work, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or 1–5+ years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to jobsites.
  • Extensive familiarity with structural erection works, with at least 5 years of experience as a Foreman or Lead.
  • Basic shop math, blueprint reading, and ability to read, write, and interpret English.
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to use lifting devices.
  • Ability to interpret shop paperwork, work instructions, and verify logs/procedures for accuracy.

Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration. The employee may occasionally be exposed to a variety of conditions within a manufacturing environment. The company provides engineering controls, PPE, and regular training to mitigate exposure to these elements.
