Field Engineering Intern

About the role

Bollinger is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineering Intern for a full-time, on-site summer internship at our Lockport, Morgan City, and Houma locations. This opportunity is ideal for students pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Naval Architecture who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a professional, real-world environment. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience in field engineering, allowing students to develop industry-relevant skills, expand their professional network, and contribute meaningfully to Bollinger’s Engineering department.

Responsibilities

• Report to Field Engineers or Project Engineers to visit new vessels under construction, to gain appreciation for the vessels, the skill set needed for field engineering, the construction process, and assist with light‑duty field engineering work.
• Visit new vessels under construction outside of the office.
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) daily.

Qualifications

• Education: Currently a Freshman or Sophomore enrolled in an undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
• Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar engineering software is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to learn in a fast‑paced environment.
• Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
