Responsibilities
- Completing a Pre-Work Safe Plan before commencing any work at each site, each day
- Conducting a site audit to verify device locations against the issued work order
- Logging in to each device and verifying circuit IDs, confirming no live customer traffic is present before proceeding
- Performing a power clamp test and recording the amps drawn
- De-energising the device: removing fuses, tripping the relevant breaker, and applying a Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) tag
- Completing the Circuit in View (CIV) test as directed by client engineering
- Updating Client systems with device status, outcome, and daily log on the day of work
- Uploading all photographs to the designated shared folder on the day of work
Requirements
- Hands-on experience decommissioning or maintaining legacy telecommunications network equipment in a live data centre or central office environment is essential
- Familiarity with optical transport platforms including Nortel OC48/OC192, MOVAZ RAYEXPRESWDM, and Ciena 2600 or equivalent WDM equipment
- Experience with router and switch equipment including Cisco 15454, Cisco 15310, Cisco 15327, and Juniper MX/EX platforms
- Ability to log in to network devices, read circuit IDs, and verify no live traffic is present before de-energisation
- Competency with power clamp meters ¿ ability to measure amps drawn by a device and interpret readings
- Understanding of data centre structured cabling, power distribution, and equipment racking
- Current LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) certification ¿ must be able to demonstrate competency and carry full LOTO kit on every site visit
- Valid authorisation to work in data centre and telecommunications environments in the US (or ability to obtain this prior to start date)
- Completion of, or willingness to complete, data centre safety induction (physical security, raised floor, live equipment awareness)
- Demonstrable understanding of electrical safety in live environments must not assume zero energy without a physical clamp test
- Willingness to complete a Pre-Work Safe Plan before work commences on each site day consistently and without exception
- Able to accurately update field management and work order systems (NetPal, FieldTech, or equivalent) on the same day as work is performed
- Structured approach to documentation, able to maintain consistent daily logs, LOTO records, and photo archives across multiple concurrent site visits
- Competency with smartphone or tablet for on-site photo capture, upload, and naming convention compliance
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a field or network engineer in a telecommunications, data centre, or network deployment environment
- Proven track record of working independently across multiple sites with minimal supervision
- Full, clean US driving licence role involves travel across California to all assigned wave sites
- Willingness to travel statewide across California, including occasional overnight stays for remote/rural sites
- Safety-first mindset consistently prioritises personal safety, team safety, and customer network integrity above schedule pressure
- Disciplined and methodical approach to field work ¿ able to follow defined processes precisely and consistently, especially under time pressure
- Clear communicator, able to report site anomalies, Found-in-Field discoveries, and blockers to the PM promptly and accurately
- Integrity, will escalate to the PM rather than proceeding with out-of-scope or unauthorised work, even if it creates short-term delay
- Self-starter comfortable managing a full site day independently, completing all required documentation without prompting
