Field Engineer, Public Sector
As a Field Engineer on our federal AI projects, you'll work directly with our largest public sector customers to ensure their experience with Scale's technology is smooth and successful. You'll help these customers build production-grade data pipelines, collaborating closely with our Product, Engineering, and Operations teams. This role sits at the intersection of customer delivery, product, and engineering.
About the role
The ideal candidate is a generalist software engineer who enjoys working with clients, turns ambiguous problems into practical solutions, and collaborates closely with Product and Engineering. An Active TS/SCI Clearance is required.
Responsibilities
- Build end-to-end data integrations that sync customer data to and from Scale's platform
- Work with customers' engineering teams to optimize data pipelines, including input on API endpoint design and input/output schemas
- Design and maintain playbooks, internal tools, documentation, and SDKs that set customers up for long-term success
- Partner with engineers and Operations to resolve technical blockers, debug delivery issues, and own technical escalations from customers
- Own the customer's technical experience throughout their time with Scale
- Work with Account Executives and Product Managers to identify customer-specific feature requests
- Develop expertise in large language models, 2D image annotation, and API integrations
- Represent Scale and engage with customers at major events
Requirements
- Experience as a customer-facing engineer or in a similar hybrid role
- Hands-on technical experience working with clients in a pre- or post-sales capacity
- Development experience with Python, JavaScript, or other modern languages
- A strong engineering background, ideally in computer science, mathematics, or another quantitative field
- Strong project management and interpersonal skills
- The ability to present credibly to both executives and front-line engineers
- Comfort communicating across internal and external teams
- Intellectual curiosity, empathy, and the ability to move quickly
Nice to Have
- Experience in AI
- Experience working in classified environments
- Prior experience as a technical go-to-market resource
- Understanding of DevSecOps principles, including secure software delivery, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Helm charts
- Experience automating infrastructure with Ansible or similar tools
Pay
The base salary range for this full-time position in the location of Washington DC/Hawaii is: $180,550—$226,550 USD.
The base salary range for this full-time position in the location of St. Louis/Suffolk is: $150,400—$188,000 USD.
