About the Role
Fay, part of S&B USA Construction, is seeking highly motivated Civil Engineering and Construction Management graduates to join our team as Field Engineers beginning in May 2027. This entry-level opportunity offers hands-on experience supporting the construction of major highway, bridge, and other heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
As a Field Engineer, you will work alongside experienced Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Superintendents, gaining exposure to the complete construction process—from project planning and estimating through field execution, quality control, scheduling, and project closeout.

Responsibilities
- Assists with pre-construction activities, including construction planning and design, and interpretation of design and drawings.
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of specifications, drawings, standards, and subcontractor & supplier scope of work.
- Communicates and reinforces all Company safety policies and procedures.
- Interprets specifications, designs, and drawings, and prepares quantity takeoffs.
- Prepares drawings and sketches to support construction work, change orders, and estimates.
- Verifies work-in-place quantities for invoicing and pay quantities.
- Maintains submittal logs and ensures timely receipt and review of submittals and shop drawings.
- Ensures craft time cards are completed accurately, reflecting hours worked and tasks, and verifies cost codes for purchases, time cards, contracts, equipment time, and other cost-related items.
- Maintains as-built drawings; posts RFI, bulletin, and ASI as appropriate.
- Maintains RFI logs.
- Participates in constructability reviews and value engineering functions.
- Develops, implements, and administers project engineering procedures and other work documents; tracks and logs documentation.
- Takes weekly jobsite photographs.
- Works with the Safety Department to ensure project safety records are accurately maintained.
- Assists in quality control activities.
- Assists in preparing project status reports and participates in project status meetings; assists in development of meeting minutes.
- Assists in project close-out activities.
- May support estimates as needed.
- Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
Requirements
- Students pursuing a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field who will graduate between December 2026 and May 2027.
- 4-year engineering degree or equivalent technical training and related experience.
- 0-4 years of field construction experience (position-specific).
- Previous internship or co-op experience with a heavy civil, highway, bridge, transportation, or general construction contractor is preferred but not required.
- E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) certification preferred but not required.
- Ability to mentor less experienced personnel.
- Ability to read and interpret plans.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Thorough understanding of cost analysis and estimating.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel as required.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to carry tools and equipment, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must see and hear well (naturally or with correction), stand, walk, handle, or feel, and use arms and hands to reach, handle, and manipulate objects.
- Frequently works or walks on uneven ground and is required to wear steel-toed boots at all times.
- Must wear approved personal protective equipment.
- Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Performs a variety of duties while exposed to outside elements or confined spaces.
- Repeats tasks of short duration according to set procedures and evaluates information using measurable standards.
