About the role

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP)—consisting of Flatiron, Dragados USA, and VINCI—has been selected to construct the $3.3BN Design-Build project, the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project spans a 9-mile section of I-64 and includes:

  • A new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing accommodating 8 lanes of capacity across the water
  • Replacement of existing marine approach bridges
  • Addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction
  • Twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels bored by TBM, creating the second-largest TBM tunnel opening in North America

Responsibilities

  • Meet daily with project crews to review production schedules and confirm materials, equipment, and resources are available to maintain schedule and budget.
  • Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data to ensure compliance with quality and contract specifications.
  • Provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling, identifying risk elements that could impact budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to track project performance accurately.
  • Document daily activities using Company-approved methods and technologies.
  • Submit accurate project quantity input and controls using assigned project cost coding to ensure proper financial reporting.
  • Manage cost coding with Company finance and accounting teams regarding employee time, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
  • Review and approve daily timecards for all Company construction crews; resolve timecard inquiries with the Office Manager, payroll, and job supervisors.
  • Review project specifications for quality assurance at the start, during, and after project completion.
  • Initiate and manage certificates, inspections, and documentation related to construction production on-site.
  • Plan field layout with construction crews and engineering leaders, ensuring utility and commercial lines are marked before production begins.
  • Initiate and manage permits required before work begins.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Attend weekly safety meetings with the field team and project leadership; present field analysis as needed.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (required).
  • 2+ years of construction engineering, scheduling, or design experience (required).
  • Intermediate knowledge of cost coding, cost savings, budgeting, and project financial implications (required).
  • Intermediate knowledge of scheduling processes and industry best practices.
  • Intermediate interpersonal relationship skills, fostering collaboration toward common goals.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment, techniques, drawings, specifications, building materials, and applicable standards.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management (preferred).
  • Construction engineering experience or knowledge (required).

Pay

Salary range: USD $90,000.00 – $105,000.00 per year.
