Field Engineer

Position Summary

Southland Contracting is seeking a motivated Field Engineer to join our team on the McNeil Tunnel Project in Austin, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional (0–2 years of experience) interested in developing specialized expertise in the underground tunneling and heavy civil construction industry.

Responsibilities

- Assist with quality control inspections and documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications. - Support underground tunneling operations and daily field activities. - Track production quantities and maintain project records. - Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and project management staff. - Assist with project documentation, reporting, and field communication. - Monitor work progress and identify potential issues impacting safety, quality, or productivity. - Support material tracking, equipment utilization, and field logistics. - Participate in project meetings and contribute to problem-solving efforts. - Ensure adherence to company safety policies and project requirements.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. - Recent graduate or 0–2 years of construction experience. - Strong interest in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, or tunneling operations. - Excellent communication and organizational skills. - Ability to work in a fast-paced field environment. - Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. - Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work collaboratively with project teams.
